  • 85% of all domestic violence victims are women who are abused by their husbands or boyfriends. Teenaged, pregnant and disabled women are especially at risk.
  • Domestic violence occurs throughout all levels of society and in every racial, ethnic, and religious group. No income level, occupation, social class or culture is immune from domestic violence.
  • Children can be direct or indirect victims. They grow up in an insecure environment filled with tension and violence. They see abuse as the natural way for domestic partners to relate to each other and they continue this behavior in their own relationships.
  • Nearly 1 in 4 women and just over 1 in 10 men in the United States report experiencing violence by a current or former spouse or dating partner at some point in their life.
