Every 12 seconds a woman is abused in the United States. Domestic violence and abuse is a serious problem that can happen to anyone. It knows no socio-economic, racial or educational boundaries, yet it is often overlooked, excused or ignored.

Calvert Country opened its first shelter for victims of domestic violence in 1991. Since that time, thousands of women and children have found refuge from abuse at this facility.
